What an FPI Member Wants

FPI is a member-driven organization and our aim is to spend our time doing what our members want.  Back in 2011, we decided to poll our members to find out what they valued most about their membership in FPI. 

We learned that our most popular publications were Executive Briefs and Packaging Innovations & Insights.  Both publications were used and valued by 88% and 80% respectively, of the members.  The State of the Industry Survey, Economic Indicators Report, Legislative & Regulatory Report and Trends Survey rounded out the top six as the most valued publications/reports.

The most popular activity was our spring and fall meetings.  It appears this continues to be the case as we typically get approximately 75-80% participation.  FPI works hard to attract the best speakers, the most current and relevant topics, and we build in plenty of networking time into our conferences. This strategy seems to be working!

We also got positive feedback on our legislative and regulatory monitoring – a crucial service to the industry.  Members also appreciated our outreach to legislators and regulators, media and other industry organizations.

Our last survey question was “Is there another program, activity or service that FPI should be providing?” and we got the following responses:

•             Customer and end-user desires for packaging

•             Increased promotion of single-use goods as solutions not problems

•             Joint efforts with other packaging groups

•             More advocacy/education re: the value of single-use versus reusables

•             More product-specific advocacy (i.e. “Cup Council”)

•             Pursuing end-of-life programs for recycling, composting, etc.

We are proud to say that we have tackled all of these issues and continue to do so.

Well, it has been five years now and we feel like it’s time to survey our membership again.  Quite a bit has changed over the last five years and we are looking forward to finding out what our members’ priorities are this time around.
