A new day, a new resource to recycle. As communities work to grow their recycling programs to include more non-traditional materials, many are asking about the recyclability of takeout food containers and cups. Community members seeing neighboring cities add different foodservice products to their programs and ask the first logical question: Can I really recycle that?
Increased opportunities to collect new materials are all around us but how to sort through them? FPI's Paper Recovery Alliance (PRA) and Plastics Recovery Group (PRG) are working to find answers to those recovery questions. Why? Because recovering valuable resources is always a smart idea. But it takes a little work and that's why we're lending a hand.
You're invited to listen in as a group of industry innovators discuss the recoverability of foodservice packaging during a one-hour webinar on August 20th at 1:00 p.m. EDT. In this one-hour conversation, a national panel of municipal recovery facilities (MRF) operators and recycling officials will discuss their achievements and concerns around the recoverability and sortation of these materials: how can MRFs work to create a mutually beneficial approach to the management of packaging waste? Where are the markets? How much material is available? What about food contamination? What kind of progress is being made to help MRFs become more confident in accepting and marketing those paper and plastic cups, cardboard boxes, fiber and plastic containers and carryout bags?
In this unscripted, honest conversation, we will discuss both the theoretical problems and real world implications of integrating these materials into revenue-generating recycling streams through efficient recovery processes. Join us to address the exciting new possibilities that can result from an open dialogue with MRF operators looking to change the face of recycling of foodservice packaging. The webinar is free, but space is limited, so please register here to reserve your spot.
This is the second of three webinars in the 2013 series on recovering foodservice packaging. The third webinar in this series, scheduled for this fall, will focus on the available markets for recovered foodservice packaging materials and will help attendees better understand their potential for locating, engaging, and monetizing what has until recently been seen as waste instead of a valuable resource.
